ACT (Canberra) Announces Changes to Sponsorship List

Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) has announced some changes with regard to their Sponsorship List and just as in any Cabinet reshuffle, there are winners and losers. The vast majority of people that we consult with need state sponsorship; either because they need the 5 or 10 points that state sponsorship can contribute to one’s overall score, or, because their occupations are on the Consolidated Skilled Occupations list and therefore need sponsorship.

Getting "High" on Points

South Australia’s announcement on Friday of last week that the high points threshold is to decrease (temporarily) from 85 to 80 points is significant for those applicants whose occupations rarely appear on state sponsorship lists.

Updated Skilled Occupation List Changes

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) have released their new skills list for the 2016/2017 immigration year. Being added to the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) means that one can apply for migration without the need for nomination from a state government.

SkillSelect Results 7 September

On 7 September, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) selected 2380 EOIs from the pool. The selection comprised 2300 invitations issued for the Skilled Independent (Subclass 189) Visa and 80 invitations issued for the Skilled – Regional Provisional (Subclass 489) Visa.

South Australia to raise the number of points from 80 to 85 for the High Point Category from 22 September

Increased requirements for “High point category” Due to high demand, Immigration SA will be raising the requirement for the high point category from 80 points to 85 points. This change is to still allow an avenue for high point scoring applicants. This policy will come into effect on the 22 September 2015 and all high point applications submitted from this date will need to meet the new requirement.

Exciting News: Can you claim 80 points?

South Australia has announced an initiative for migrants with occupations that do not usually appear on state sponsorship lists. What this means is that if you can claim 80 points (through English language, work experience, education and so on), South Australia will offer sponsorship to you for migration to Australia.

Occupational Ceilings Announcement Made

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIPB) have just announced the occupational ceilings (or quotas) that will apply to the occupations available for independent migration from July 2015 to June 2016. The ceilings set for this immigration year show no major changes or shakeups and have remained fairly stable. The most notable change being the reduction in the number of places available to the ANZSCO Unit Group Accountants which has gone from 5478 to 2525. Based on these changes and the existing pipeline, certain groups may be subject to pro-rata arrangements to ensure availability of invitations across the year.

Immigration New Year - Changes to the SOL & CSOL

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has announced the changes to the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL) which are effective as of today, 1 July 2015. As most of you would already be aware, applicants with an occupation on the SOL are able to apply for migration independently provided that they meet the relevant pass mark. Others with occupations listed only on the CSOL require sponsorship from a state/territory government in Australia.
